FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

October 1, 2021

Health Freedom Alabama is proud to announce that the Alabama Health Freedom Act was filed today, October 1, 2021, by Rep. Ritchie Whorton, and co-sponsored by 23 other freedom-loving Alabama House Republicans.  State Representatives listed as co-sponsors are as follows:

Representatives Tommy Hanes, Mike Holmes, Tim Wadsworth, Andrew Sorrell, Phillip Pettus, Bob Fincher, Jim Carns, Chip Brown, Chris Sells, Scott Stadthagen, Craig Lipscomb, Shane Stringer, Ed Oliver, Tracy Estes, Jamie Kiel, KL Brown, Danny Crawford, Nathaniel Ledbetter, Steve McMillan, Ivan Smith, Randy Wood, David Standridge, and Wes Allen.

While the recent Biden mandates have amped up the concern over this issue, the reality is that the hard working employees in our state were facing vaccine mandates as a condition of employment long before Biden ever became an issue. Such mandates have no place in a free society.

The Act, filed as HB 31, will abolish discrimination based on vaccine and immunity status in the state and aims to protect Alabama citizens and businesses from any federal vaccine mandates.

The Alabama Health Freedom Act is not only an avenue to secure individual freedom and liberty but is also good for business and economic development in our state. We depend on our hard-working Alabamians to keep our state afloat. We are already experiencing a shortage of healthcare workers. Our businesses are struggling to keep their doors open due to staffing shortages and our grocery stores struggle to keep the shelves stocked. If more than half of our population refuses to take the mandated vaccines and lose their jobs as a result, we will find ourselves in a completely avoidable economic disaster.

It is past time for Governor Ivey and the Alabama Legislature to give the people of Alabama a fighting chance on the home-front against these mandates which violate individual freedom and liberty. It’s time for Governor Ivey to place the Alabama Health Freedom Act on the call for the next special session. The livelihood of Alabama citizens and our state economy cannot afford to wait for a regular session in January. The time to act is NOW.

Citizens demand Governor Ivey call a special session to end mandates.

For Immediate Release:

Governor Kay Ivey recently announced that she would be calling a special session to begin on September 27th to address prison infrastructure and examine proposals to build three new prisons. While the state is under pressure from the federal government to address the conditions within our prisons, the prioritizing of prisons over the current social issues impacting law abiding citizens, such as employer mandated vaccines and mask mandates in schools, has left many Alabamians feeling as if Governor Ivey’s priorities are out of step with that of her constituents.

Health Freedom Alabama Co-director, Kaycee Cavender, states, “Governor Ivey seems to only oppose and act on vaccine mandates that come from President Biden but has ignored the voices of hardworking employees in Alabama who were facing job loss for refusing to comply with employer mandates to take the COVID-19 shots long before Biden became an issue.”

As employees across the state face employer mandated vaccines as a condition of employment, many are losing their jobs for refusing the shots. In addition to vaccine requirements, many parents throughout the state are disturbed by the level of government overreach by schools that are mandating masks for children as a condition of attendance and state that these mandates are a violation of their parental rights to make healthcare decisions for their children. In response, people from across the state have made calls and sent emails by the hundreds each day to demand Governor Ivey include these issues in a call for a special session.

Groups like Health Freedom Alabama are leading the charge in the grassroots effort to push for Governor Ivey to include these issues in the call for a special session which begins on September 27th. Cavender stated, “It’s time for Governor Ivey to give the people of Alabama a fighting chance on the home-front against these mandates which violate individual freedom and liberty. It’s time for her to show us that the people of Alabama are as much of a priority as the prison agenda.”
